I just got a new Boss RC-30 looper. I'm running it in the effects loop of my Egnater Rebel 30. When it's in the loop and powered on, I'm getting a pretty bad hiss. It goes down when I turn down the microphone input volume.
Phantom power on/off makes no difference. Another issue is that the rhythm patterns are super loud compared to the recorded loop and my guitar's through-put signal. Even the loop is louder than my through-put signal. Is this normal operation for this pedal, or did I get a bad one? =============== PROBLEM SOLVED! =============== Update: Another thread tipped me off to the solution.
I had the RC-30 in the effects loop of my Rebel 30. I looked at a schematic for the amp and found that the effects loop is after the preamp's volume controls - it feeds directly into the power section. So my guitar was being volume-limited in the preamp while the rhythm and loop from the RC-30 wasn't. So the obvious solution was to put the unit at the end of my preamp effects chain. The hiss didn't completely go away, but it was reduced and is no longer affected by the mic input volume.

All the other volume issues were resolved. My RC-30 is dead quiet. When i had an RC-20XL it made tons of noise with a 1 spot. I run the RC-30 w/a PP2+. Just an FYI: the mic knob only works if you have a mic plugged in (at least this is how mine works). If you have a instrument cable plugged in it is just @ unity.

So if turning down the mic level knob makes the hiss quieter. It seems to me that proves there's a problem. I could be wrong though. Mine works great. Although i am selling it. Just don't use it enough and i got jewelry to purchase for a special lady.
